FFC13

Welcome to another Festive Friday challenge. I missed the last one, so was determined to squeeze in under the wire on this one, plus I really wanted to try out this new Memory Box die.

I die cut the ornament background in silver glitter carsdstock, and the overlay in white. I wish a photo could capture how sparkly it is in real life. The rhinestones are iridescent, so have a bit of a pink tone from certain angles, tying in perfectly with this color challenge, and the pink ribbon has white and silver trim.

It's late, so I'll sign off for tonight.

Muse #28

Welcome to the Muse challenge. I haven't had time this summer to play in the craft zone, but it's my sister's 39th birthday, so I was forced to make some time today for a quick card. I had a thought in the wee hours last night of doing something with a Polaroid style frame. Imagine my surprise when I saw logged into Facebook this morning and saw the latest Muse! Cue the Twighlight Zone music.  I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised. This is a common theme lately.

I don't think this is exactly the picture I had in mind last night, but I can't recall exactly what I wanted to frame because I was half asleep at the time. I opted to follow Lynn's layout fairly closely using a bright color scheme to match the gift bag I used, and some embossed die cut butterflies because that was the fastest thing I could think of, and in my opinion, you can never go wrong with butterflies! My niece was quite thrilled with them, so I guess she would agree. I don't have a die for the frame, so I cut one out with my paper trimmer and finished it off with the corner chomper.

This is the inspiration provided by the talented Lynn Mangan. Love how her flowers pop with that rich dark background.

Maybe if I'm lucky I will dream about my original card idea tonight so I can bring it to life later this week? Off to bed to try.

Fusion #13

Welcome to another Fusion challenge. I've been missing a lot of challenges lately. I can't seem to find time to blog with all of the outdoor projects I have going on during the summer months. I guess I could stamp more, if it would rain more, but I'm certainly not wishing for that! Summer is never long enough, so I have to "make hay while the sun shines", and get back to stamping more regularly when the snow flies.
When I first saw this challenge, I loved the color scheme from Lesley's challenge, and wanted to fuse it with the layout from Jackie's challenge. Good thing it was a 3 week challenge, and I finally found some time to work on it! It did rain last night, and I just received an order from SU, so decided to play around with some new stamps, punch and an embossing folder. Loving these pansies so far. There are 6 different types, and I think I like them all, though these scribbled ones jumped out at me first.

The only thing left to decide was what type of sentiment to add. Unfortunately, I found out today that one of my best stamping buddies and her husband lost his brother this week, a day before his 39th birthday. It's a horribly sad story, he had been sick for a while, and to make a long story short, this color scheme happens to work well for a sympathy card, though I hadn't planned it that way, so I opted to add "thinking of you" so I can send it to my friends.

That's all for today.

Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger

It's Tuesday, so why not play along with Moxie Fab's Tuesday Trigger, Scene in Tangerine? I'm so sad that I missed out on the Muse challenge this week because I've been busy painting the house, but it's a little rainy this morning, so I can spare some time for a little crafting.

This is the first time I've done a Moxie fab challenge. I was so drawn to the summery colors in this inspiration photo that I couldn't resist diving in. Sadly, I realized I don't really have much in that luscious tangerine shade like the ric rac in the photo, but I was able to create it by adding a dash of pink watercolor crayon to a more orange tone.

Looks like the skies are clearing, so I guess it's time for me to get back outside and get painting!

FFC11

Welcome to another Festive Friday challenge. Summer weather has finally arrived and I've been sidetracked lately by outdoor projects, so haven't had much time for crafting or blogging, but I didn't want to miss this challenge! I don't think I've missed a Festive Friday yet, and am thrilled that I'm still on track to be ready for Christmas without the last minute scramble this year.
This is an element challenge to create a holiday project that includes at least one tree. This tree is one of my favourite Christmas stamps, so it was an easy choice to use as my focal point. I wanted to stamp it in grey, but soft stone from PTI was too light, and smoky shadow looked almost black, which did not match the picture I had in my mind. I tried bordering blue from SU. It's really more grey than blue, especially paired with white and silver. and is about the right shade so that was the winning combo.
I added some glitter and rhinestones to make the tree sparkle since the rest of the card is fairly simple. I'm not going to throw away that smoky shadow tree though! I think I can salvage it if I bling it up a little so it looks less stark, and find the right color combo to showcase it.
